Skreeonk! by TheKaijuMaster Skreeonk! by TheKaijuMaster
With the big reveal of the teaser poster and trailer for Legendary Pictures' upcoming reboot of GODZILLA at the San Diego Comic-Con the other day, I thought I'd whip up some fan art of the Big G to celebrate.

It isn't my best piece, but I was indeed experimenting by creating an urban setting in the background. Anyways, enjoy!

Godzilla (c) Toho Co., Ltd. 1954 - 2012

Drawn by Arlo Hansen

Drawn on Manga Studio EX 4
Colored and Edited on Adobe Photoshop CS5

I'm planning on doing more fanart of Godzilla and his kaiju pals. :XD:
Thinking of doing a piece on both King Ghidorah and Gigan next, my other two top favorite kaiju.

Is this what Godzilla looked like in the teaser?

No. This is just my interpretation of the character.
However I was considering on including a downed insect-like enemy monster much like what was described from the teaser.

From the trailer it looks like his head is more inspired by a Snapping Turtle.

Awesome!! This piece is really epic! I love how you drew the Big G! He looks really cool and very powerful! I especially like how the face came out and how his dorsal fins provide as a lighting source. The buildings and atomic beam could have been done a little bit better though lol. All in all this is a very cool poster! Really awesome job! Its been a LONG time since you've drawn the Big G :)

They actually revealed a new poster and trailer? I haven't heard anything of it. What was the trailer like? Also, did they pull back Comic Con? I don't remember it being THIS early and on the same weekend as G-fest.

Pretty much.
I'm assuming that it's from the shot of Godzilla roaring before it blacks out and reveals the title of the film.

Huh. Even though its blurry his head looks cool lol. Its looks a lot more saurian influenced with a bit of alligator or dragon. Hopefully they post a video on Youtube cause i really want to see it. I also want to see that other monster you were talking about.

Apparently it was reported by August Ragone that the design closely resembles this maquette, and the classic Godzilla. [link]

Oh yeah. I remember that model. If they are going to base it after that then hes going to end up looking really epic. I cant wait to see what he'll look like.

Question. Whats the difference between a maquette and a sulpture?

The trailer and teaser poster were something that Legendary Pictures surprised attendees to the Pacific Rim panel at SDCC. The trailer featured a ruined and desolate city, a building with a hole through it with scorch marks around it (hinting Godzilla's atomic ray), and a downed enemy monster (most likely an original creation by Legendary - peopled described it looking like a mutant centipede or beetle), and towards the end we are revealed to Godzilla with his distinctive dorsal plates, iconic roar, and everything. It hasn't surfaced online yet, but I assume that it'll eventually surface in the coming week or so. The teaser poster is just a black page with Godzilla written in big bold silver letters with the Japanese name of the character written in red behind it. You can easily search it on Google.

Wow. Thats sounds like quite an awesome trailer! I got to watch it. So what are your opinions on the movie so far? You think its going to be eye bleedingly awesome or a let down?

Also shouldn't Comic Con have taken place in August like it normally did?

It normally takes place in July, at least it does now and last year...
August is quite too late for a Con of that magnitude to take place. :XD:

Anyways, my thoughts on the film? Well I wish to keep my expectations low. It allows me not to get easily disappointed if things take a turn for the worse (ala Michael Bay's Transformers films) and also allows me to get extremely excited and satisfied if things turn out really good.

As of now, however, I'm just happy that we finally get a trailer. It's been a long wait, and I love how Legendary kept it a surprise to essentially the last minute. My faith on the project is certainly better than it was yesterday, but still. I don't want to jump to conclusions and say that this will be the ULTIMATE Godzilla movie, because until it comes out, we will never know. It could end up being really bad or really good. In a nutshell, I tend to reserve my judgements until I actually see the movie.

At this point, it is certainly looking a lot better than that travesty from 1998.

I swore it took place in August or late July. I remember i used to see it when i got home after my yearly vacation. I always miss the good stuff! -_-

I see. I am the same way with things that way too. I have had many things in my life become an utter dissapointment due to me having high hopes.

Im glad they came out with something. I bet Matt must be as gitty as a school girl lol. I hope they release more trailers and info but i guess its better for it to be a surprise.

Hey! The 98' movie wasn't travesty! It was decent lol. At least Zilla was awesome. It also lead up to one of the most epic cartoons of all time.

It WAS a travesty of a Godzilla movie... but if only it weren't named Godzilla I would've liked it a lot more. The cartoon series following it was the only redeeming factor for the 1998 film.

Even though the acting and plot might have sucked balls seeing Zilla was pretty cool though. Yes he might no have been the big lumbering brute that everyone knew or loved but he was still really cool looking. One could say it was an alternate universe slender version of the Big G himself lol. Besides there has been other bad Godzilla movies too. Perhaps even worse than the 98 movie.
