That's the phrase I kept in mind while illustrating this new rendition of my all to well known original kaiju, Olragon.
My intention was to return Olragon's design to his roots, all the way back to the beginning. While I kept much of his updated appearance, his body, tail, and abilities, have been altered.
His ability to fly has been eliminated (though when the Guardians' Stone - now positioned inside his chest rather than outside - takes over, his psychic abilities will allow him to levitate... in a sense like SpaceGodzilla).
His tail fin has been replaced by a club-like object. This was a design feature back when I first designed Olragon over four years ago. It was still a neat addition, so I brought it back for the current one.
Olragon has also gained some bulk as well. This was intentional. I wanted Olragon to evoke a Heisei-esque quality. Also his legs have been shortened and the triple-joint build has been limited to allow Olragon to posses a traditional kaiju stance - as if it was a man in a suit.
I suspect that this design will raise a bit of controversy. I have added so much to Olragon's design over the years...and now all that has been stripped away. However, I feel that this design works. It's not to complicated, and it's basic. All in the while, it retains much of what we love about the kaiju as well.
What do you think?

AWESOME!! He came out really really epicly! its good to see my old pal back to his former self. I liked him a lot better when he was big and bulky like this. By him being bulky it makes him look a lot more like a guardian since he could take a lot of hits and dish out the pain. I'm not saying that I hated the slim version with the wings, I just preferred the bulky version better. Even though you've changed Olragon's appearance A LOT lately, I've loved the all. It shows you his evolution. Its good to see him back to the basics. Its going to take some getting used to the fact he doesn't have his jets (yet), but i think it makes him look a lot more reptilian like. The club tail is a nice improvement. i really really like it. It looks really cool on him. As always, truly phenomenal job dude! its really good to see him back to the basics
With the changes, not a bad choices. It's a bit like how I had change Monsturra throughout the years before settling on his current design (not saying it's final, though I doubt I would change it too much). I do miss the jet propulsion ability, which I think made Olragon stand out a bit (the tail fin isn't a big lost to me). But, I do like the more simple design you got here.
I intend Olragon to remain this way...up until his "Powered Up" form that is.
I myself won't be missing the tail fin design much. It seemed quite redundant with Olragon's back fins, then another set on the tip of his tail. The bladed-clubbed tail design will allow him to utilize his tail as a weapon.

It does work well, I suppose. I know that thing was pain in the ass when I drew him the last time.
